Thank You from SYS! |
Shrewsbury Youth Soccer Expresses a Heartfelt “Thank you!” to Jeff Doyle and His Fellow Eagle Scouts in Troop 227 for a Job Well Done!!
For his big, end-of-year Eagle Project, Shrewsbury Eagle Scout Jeff Doyle organized a fun, spirited day of unity, hard work and community-building that everyone involved in Shrewsbury Youth Soccer — the SYS Board members, the coaches, the players and the parents — will never forget! We also wish to thank David of Shrewsbury Lumber for his stellar leadership, mentorship and guidance on a complicated, ambitious and ultimately wonderfully successful project.
On June 8, 2008, a deeply committed group of Shrewsbury residents — both children and adults — gathered together on Shrewsbury’s Municipal fields to volunteer their time, supplies and labor to a project near and dear to the hearts of everyone connected to the Shrewsbury Youth Soccer program. Together, they demolished the old front porch of the Municipal “snack shack,” and then — step by painstaking step — they rebuilt it stronger, sturdier and better than ever. And of course the flower boxes and lattice work that they added at the end provided the perfect finishing touches!
The revitalized Snack Shack has become, as they say, the “Talk of the Town,” and all of us affiliated with SYS in any capacity could not be any prouder or any more grateful.
The before and after pictures
demonstrate just how incredibly hard everyone worked on this important task, and precisely how many key steps were involved!
All of us in the SYS community wish to commend and express our deepest gratitude to Jeff and all of the other 26 volunteers who worked so generously and tirelessly to complete this important, ambitious project with enthusiasm, good humor, and a real “can do” spirit and attitude on what turned out to be one of the absolute hottest days of the season! By the time the project was completely finished, Jeff and his fellow participants had invested in excess of 150 volunteer hours planning and executing each of the project’s many details, both big and small.
It was truly a major undertaking and a great testament to the wonderful sense of community spirit that is alive and well in Eagle Scouts Troop 227, Shrewsbury Lumber, the Shrewsbury Parks and Recreation department, and Shrewsbury Youth Soccer.

Our deepest thanks to Jeff, Peter, David and everyone else who participated in this important project! A plaque honoring Troop 227 will soon be mounted on the Snack Shack, so that now and in the future, everyone who purchases a snack there will be reminded of exactly how hard all of you worked on that scorching hot day in June of 2008.
